The Master of Hospital Administration Study Program (MARS) is one of the two master’s study programs managed by the Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University (Unhas). This study program was established in 2019 based on the Decree of the Chancellor of Hasanuddin University No.461/UN4.1/KEP/2019 concerning the Opening of the Master’s Study Program (S2) in Hospital Administration at the Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University which was established on January 25 2019. The Master of Hospital Administration Study Program (MARS) was originally a concentration in the Master of Public Health study program which was established in 2001 based on the Decree of the Chancellor of Hasanuddin University No. 670/J04/O/2003. In a period of 18 years, the MARS concentration has produced 381 graduates.
The great interest of students in the Master of Hospital Administration concentration means that it is deemed necessary to develop it as a study program. Apart from that, since the enactment of Law No. 44 of 2009 concerning Hospitals, article 34 states that hospital directors need to have the ability and expertise in the field of hospitals. This has implications for the high demand for Regional Governments to organize hospital management programs and Masters in Hospital Administration graduates are still very much needed to meet human resource needs at the managerial level at the hospital level.
As a new study program, the MARS study program has received minimum accreditation based on the Decree of the Independent Accreditation Institute for Health Universities (LAM-PTKes) Number 0004/LAM-PTKes/Akr PSB.PTN- BH/Mag/XII/2018 dated 30 December 2018. In the 2019/2020 academic year, the MARS study program accepted 31 students until the 2020/2021 academic year, the total number of MARS study program students was 88 students.
